The first blood test for colorectal cancer was approved Monday by the Food and Drug Administration. Guardant Health’s Shield test is for people 45 and older who are at average risk for the disease. The screening method can be completed in a routine doctor’s visit – unlike stool tests and colonoscopies – but it is less effective than other options.
