Florence Pugh supported her fellow actors by joining the picket line for the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.
Yesterday, the Oscar-nominated actor was spotted carrying a sign and proudly donning a SAG-AFTRA sticker at a picket line outside Disney Studios in Burbank, California.
For the outing, Pugh embraced cottagecore in a frilly white off-the-shoulder minidress featuring delicate lace along the neckline, bodice, and skirt. For footwear, Pugh walked the line in a pair of chunky white sneakers. She finished off the look with some colorful and eclectic accessories, including a beaded purple choker necklace, yellow bird-shaped earrings, bronze- and gold-rimmed cat-eye sunglasses, a slew of gold rings, and a caramel-brown shoulder bag.
Last month, the actors of SAG-AFTRA joined Writers Guild of America screenwriters to strike simultaneously for the first time in over 60 years. By withholding their collective labor, the actors are demanding better compensation in a media landscape transformed by streaming. Actors are also concerned with studios’ plans to use artificial intelligence in a way that could eliminate thousands of jobs.
The work stoppage has led to a near total shutdown of Hollywood, halting production of film and television projects.
“At some point, the jig is up. You cannot keep being dwindled and marginalized and disrespected and dishonored. The entire business model has been changed by streaming, digital, AI. This is a moment of history,” SAG-AFTRA president Fran Drescher said during a press conference in July. “If we don’t stand tall right now, we are all going to be in trouble.”
