A Florida man has been charged with murdering his half-brother on Christmas Day at a home in unincorporated Naperville, authorities said.
Kendall Yarborough, 28, of Palm Harbor, is accused of firing a 9mm handgun from the second floor of a home in the 25W0-100 block of Wood Court in response to his half-brother slamming a card table on the first floor because he could not find his cell phone, reports said.
The bullet struck James Watson, no age or address available, in the abdomen in an incident that took place at about 3 p.m., according to a news release from the DuPage County State’s Attorney and DuPage County Sheriff’s offices.
Family members attempted to help Watson, who was taken to a local hospital and pronounced deceased.
A 9mm Sig Sauer P-365X gun and one spent 9mm bullet casing were recovered at the scene, the report said. Yarborough was taken into custody without incident and has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder.
“On Christmas day, James Watson lost his life after his half-brother, Kendall Yarborough, allegedly shot him in the abdomen while James was looking for his cell phone,” State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement. “This senseless act of violence will not go unpunished.”
Yarborough is being held in the DuPage County jail pending a Wednesday hearing at which a judge will decide if he is to be detained until the case is resolved.
