It’s going to be another scorching hot day today across SWFL, with ‘feels-like’ numbers soaring well into the triple digits this afternoon.
We’re already off to a warm start, with temperatures settling into the upper 70s and lower 80s at sunrise. Under clear and sunny skies those temperatures will climb quickly, reaching highs in the mid-90s for most by the afternoon. Factoring in the high humidity, heat index values over 110° will be common. Today is another day then to be thinking about heat safety — meaning if you do plan on spending time outdoors during the heat of the day take frequent breaks in the shade or the air conditioning, and make sure to stay hydrated.
There won’t be much rain out there to help cool things down today, either. A few downpours close to the coast during the early afternoon will shift to deep inland downpours and storms through the mid-afternoon and evening.
Look for similar weather to persist through mid-week, as some Saharan Dust works back into our skies limiting rain chances and keeping the blazing hot weather in place. By Friday and the weekend, we’ll look to get back to more typical rainy season thunderstorm activity. Highs will hold in the mid-90s throughout.
Tracking the tropics:
There are no named storms nor any areas of concern in the tropical Atlantic currently. No development is expected to occur over the next seven days.
