Forecast: Excessive heat warning active Tuesday

Get ready for another hot day on Tuesday! The National Weather Service in Miami has issued an excessive heat warning for Collier, Glades and Hendry Counties. This is only the second time that Collier County has had this warning and the first time ever that an excessive heat warning has been issued for Hendry and Glades Counties. The heat index will be 113° or higher and stay there for at least 2 hours. That’s what we’re expecting on Tuesday afternoon.

It will also be hot across the rest of Southwest Florida, but the heat index will stay below excessive heat warning criteria. Heat index values will still approach 110° on Tuesday afternoon. The rain chance will be small, at just 30%.

A ridge of high pressure in the East Central Gulf of Mexico will keep the storms from moving very much from the spot where they pop. This means the few showers and storms that we do have on Tuesday could produce some heavy downpours and some localized flooding if the storms don’t move very quickly.
