It’s going to be another scorching hot day for SWFL, though there will be a few cooling storms out there this afternoon as well.
We’re already off to a warm start this morning with sunrise temperatures settling into the upper 70s and lower 80s. Under mainly sunny skies those temperatures will climb quickly, settling into the middle and lower 90s by the afternoon. Factoring in high humidity, heat index values between 105° and 110° will be common. Make sure you stay hydrated if you need to be outdoors later today, and take breaks from the heat in the shade or the air conditioning whenever you can.
Unlike the last two days — we’ll actually get a couple of storms to form out there this afternoon. While rain coverage will be sparse, we’ll see isolated storms begin to pop up close to and east of US-41 and I-75 by the mid afternoon, with scattered inland storms continuing until sunset.
Rain chances will continue to pick up for the second half of the week, with scattered to widespread afternoon storms each day through the weekend. The heat will stick around though, with highs holding in the middle 90s.
Tracking the tropics:
An area of low pressure is expected to develop in the central Atlantic this week that will have a medium chance to become a tropical depression or tropical storm. If it takes a name, it would be Don. Regardless it is no threat to SWFL or the United States.
