The sea breeze did not drift past Page Field in Fort Myers Tuesday, but it DID go inland of Naples Airport. As a result, Fort Myers set a record high of 96º this afternoon, while Naples stayed a bit less hot at 93º. Temperatures overnight will settle into the mid to upper 70s to start the day Wednesday under a mainly clear sky.

There won’t be as prevalent of a wind on Wednesday, so the sea breeze will be allowed to go deeper inland. Right along SR 29 will be the best opportunity to receive some rain, and as the sea breeze fades in the evening, the rain will stay with the decaying boundary close to Lake Okeechobee.

Slightly drier air will roll over Southwest Florida on Thursday, so the rain coverage will be slightly less. We’ll go from a 40% coverage of rain on Wednesday to a 30% coverage on Thursday. Then rain coverage rises Friday and the weekend to 50% with slightly cooler daytime high temperatures.

Tracking the Tropics:

Hurricane Lee is still a major hurricane with 115 mph winds at 11 p.m. Tuesday. It will get close to Maine this weekend, perhaps even making landfall there, but as a weaker tropical storm and not a hurricane.

Hurricane Margot is 85 mph at 11 p.m., Margot will continue to move north and remain over the open Atlantic.

A tropical wave in the east-central Atlantic has a high chance of development over the next 7 days. If it takes a name, the next one on the list is Nigel.
