After a stormy Father’s Day, we are starting to dry out for the night. A portion of Cape Coral received an estimated 6 inches of rain since Saturday evening, which caused some local flooding on the roadways.  

A few leftover showers are still possible through the night, but nothing like we saw earlier in the day. It will continue to be mostly cloudy overnight and muggy, with lows in the upper 70s.

Isolated showers or drizzle are once again possible in the morning. Most of the storms will be concentrated in central South Florida, towards Lake Okeechobee, in the afternoon. Still, a stray downpour can’t be ruled out for our coastal communities. Highs will be around 90.

We will stay in a similar pattern for the next couple of days, with warm nights and spotty storms during the day.

A broad area of low pressure, located several hundred miles from the Cabo Verde Islands, has become better organized, and a tropical depression or tropical storm is expected to form in the next day or so. If it were to strengthen into a tropical storm or hurricane, it would take the name, Bret.

Tracking the Tropics

Through the next couple of days, the disturbance will trek west in the central tropical Atlantic. It is not expected to impact the United States at this time. We’ll be tracking it closely, so stick with ABC7 for the latest.
