Forecast: Tropical wave floats over Florida, enhancing rain coverage Friday

Grab the umbrella! A tropical wave sitting over the Bahamas Thursday evening will float across Florida on Friday. Lots of moisture is associated with this tropical wave, so the area that gets rain on Friday will increase around Southwest Florida. We’re going with 70% coverage of rain on Friday, and we are expecting some morning as well as afternoon and evening rain. There will also be a few storms in the mix, especially during the peak heating of the day in the afternoon and early evening.

Somewhat Saturday but more so Sunday, the tropical wave will pull away from the Peninsula and lower our rain chances heading into next week. We won’t be dealing with Saharan dust, so the rain chances will not go as low as they were last week when we did have Saharan dust in the atmosphere. Rather, a more seasonal 40% rain chance will be a general rule of thumb heading into next week, with the timing of the rain set for the afternoon and evening along the seabreeze boundary collision.

Tracking the Tropics

A tropical wave, about 3250 miles from Southwest Florida in the Atlantic, has a medium chance of development over the next 7 days. Over the next 2 days, however, the chance for development is zero. We will monitor the tropical wave and get you more when things develop next week. Currently, it does not look like it will track close to Southwest Florida.
