Forecast: Winds with afternoon storms

A disturbance near the Bahamas and Cuba is bringing tropical moisture to SWFL this weekend.

This means that we will see more clouds than sun on Sunday along with scattered storms. The area of disturbed weather is forecast to move into the Gulf and drift west this week, where some tropical development is possible. By then, it will be far from SWFL.

Sunday starts off warm with the potential for some sunshine early in the day, especially the further north you are. Clouds will take over and will cap temperatures just above 90 for the day. Storms will develop mid-morning in Collier County and will generally move northwest through the early afternoon. The evening will be drier with the clouds starting to break apart.

Saharan dust in the atmosphere will help limit storm development during the work week.

Along with the disturbance previously mentioned, there are four other areas the National Hurricane Center is tracking in the Atlantic basin.

The newly formed Tropical Depression 6 (circled in red) formed several hundred miles from the northern Leeward Islands. The depression has maximum sustained winds of 35 MPH and is moving west-northwest at 16 MPH.  It is expected to be a short-lived system and is not forecast to become a tropical storm or directly impact land.

A tropical wave is emerging off the coast of Africa and has a low chance for development at this time. Some slow development is possible as it moves west-northwest in the tropical eastern Atlantic over the next several days.

The area that currently has the highest chance for tropical development, in the eastern tropical Atlantic, will most likely not affect land as it moves west-northwest.

Lastly, there is a disturbance several hundred miles from the Lesser Antilles that has the chance for slow development through early next week. We will keep an eye on this system as it slowly moves west-northwest at 10-15 MPH in the upcoming days.
