Community pays tribute to veterans on Wall of Honor
The Alpine Community Center, at 1830 Alpine Blvd., welcomes local veterans to visit its Veterans Wall of Honor. More than 600 names are engraved on the Wall of Honor, which was dedicated on Memorial Day in 2011. The wall is a place to pay tribute to those who have served the country or are currently serving and offers a place for reflection. Community members can order a plaque for a currently serving military member or retired veteran. The Alpine Community Center, where the wall is located, is a nonprofit. Symphony gives pops concert
The North Coast Symphony Orchestra presents “Look! Up in the Sky!” pops concert at 2:30 p.m. July 13 at La Costa Canyon High School Theater, 1 Maverick Way. Family walk at lagoon July 20
Batiquitos Lagoon Foundation volunteers will lead a free family walk at 10 a.m. July 20. A live raptor will be featured at Daley Ranch’s Discussions With Friends at 11 a.m. July 14 at the Daley Ranch House. Author Talk focuses on WWII and Donut Dollies
The Friends of the Fallbrook Library’s free Author Talk is from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. July 14 at the library, 124 S. Mission Road. Luis Alberto Urrea, a bestselling author of 19 books, will talk about his latest book, “Good Night, Irene.” The book is based on his mother’s Red Cross service as one of the Donut Dollies. After the attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941, the Red Cross sent aid to wounded soldiers. Urrea describes how the Donut Dollies ran mobile Army clubhouses that brought a bit of home to soldiers in the form of doughnuts, coffee and hot chocolate along with clean socks. Clothing, household items collected for refugees
The Village Church is collecting donations of new and gently used clothing and household items for newly arrived refugee families as part of its Christmas in July event. The Fleet Science Center has joined the Museums for All program to encourage people of all backgrounds and financial resources to visit the museum. Free museum admission offered
Along with free general admission to the exhibits at the San Diego Museum of Art in Balboa Park on the third Tuesday of each month for San Diego County residents, the museum offers another free day on the second Thursday of each month for all visitors, regardless where they live. The Vista Community Clinic started its Medication Assisted Treatment program to provide support and treatment for community members struggling with opioid use disorder. The program offers medication management by a primary care clinician to control withdrawal symptoms and reduce cravings coupled with counseling and behavioral therapies to provide a whole-patient approach to the treatment of substance use disorders. Cat Cuddle Hour
A Cat Cuddle Hour at Love Your Feral Felines is from noon to 5 p.m. July 13-14 at the LYFF Adoption Center, 1929 W. Vista Way.
