TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – A Florida amendment could clear the way for Governor DeSantis to run for President.
On Wednesday, the Florida Senate officially passed an amendment to the “Resign to Run” bill, which was used as the foundation for debate against Governor Ron DeSantis’ eligibility to stay Governor while running for President of the United States.
The amendment was proposed by Senator Travis Hutson and went to the Senate floor today for debate.
According to Representative Spencer Roach, “in a surprise move, the Senate waived the rules and went ahead and voted on the elections bill”.
It passed out of the Senate on a strict party-line vote of 28 to 12.
Supporters of this amendment, like Senate President Kathleen Passidomo, say this amendment doesn’t technically change the process — instead “it adds clarity to current law and eliminates ambiguity.”
The amendment will now go to the House of Representatives and it’s expected to be debated and voted on Thursday.
