San Francisco’s 53rd annual Pride celebration is taking over Civic Center this weekend, June 24 and 25, ending with Sunday’s Pride Parade and prompting multiple street closures in downtown San Francisco throughout this week, according to a San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency spokesperson.
The event, which includes over 200 parade groups and exhibitors, is expected to draw nearly 1 million attendees to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community, SF Pride said on its website. Traffic and transit may be affected from Tuesday, June 20, through Tuesday, June 27, 2023.
The weekend’s biggest event is the parade, which starts Sunday, June 25, at 10:30 a.m. and runs along Market Street from the Embarcadero to the celebration at Civic Center, around Eighth Street. SFMTA said the cross streets along Market between Stewart and Eighth streets will be closed for the duration of the parade, which can last three hours, according to SF Pride. The closures will be lifted as soon as possible after the parade has passed.
BART is offering the most service ever for the Pride Parade. BART stations are set to open at 8 a.m. Sunday, June 25, and run on five lines until 9 p.m. Special event trains will be added throughout the day as needed, from Millbrae and Pleasant Hill to San Francisco and back. Riders should expect large crowds in the morning at Embarcadero Station and all day at Civic Center Station.
