NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. — The Lee County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) arrested a homeless man in North Fort Myers after he threw a baseball-sized rock at a pickup truck that was driving by.

This happened around lunchtime on Tuesday, along Orange Grove Boulevard near Tropic Isles Elementary School.

Deputies said the rock hurler’s name is 47-year-old Zioko Simbi. The rock he threw hit the truck’s rear fender leaving three dents and several scratches. Deputies said that’s about $500 to $800 worth of damage.

Luckily the driver didn’t crash and he kept his cool, called 911 and kept his eye on Simbi until deputies arrived.

When deputies arrived the driver told them Simbi had walked inside a nearby Publix.

Deputies found Simbi, placed him into handcuffs and started to gather his belongings. That’s when Simbi started screaming and kicking in the back of their cruiser.

Tonight, Simbi is still sitting behind bars at the Lee County Jail. He’s facing charges of throwing a deadly missile into an occupied vehicle.

Residents who live off Orange Grove Boulevard said the homeless people who live in the area are usually harmless.

“This is a pretty quiet neighborhood but there is areas in North Fort Myers and this is one of ‘em where some homeless people hang around and I do suppose they get angry at the world and do something like that,” Dan Woods said. “That’s an easy way to kill someone… what if a child was in that side of the car the rock came through… the child could be killed or badly disfigured for life.”

“I’ve seen a video where somebody did that and the person died like on impact. I’d probably run him over I’m not even gonna lie. He woke up and chose violence, so I guess we are too!” Gyllesa Bramlet said.
