After a decade of selling ice cream with wacky toppings and in all kinds of shapes and sizes, Denver’s Ice Cream Riot, 1238 E. Colfax Ave., has announced that it is closing soon.
The store was known for its breakfast cereal-inspired ice creams, like Fruity Pebbles, along with Pop-Tarts ice cream sandwiches and of course, cannoli-stuffed ice creams.
“Well friends, I’m here to break the news that like Boyz II Men, we’ve come to the end of the road here at Ice Cream Riot,” owner Jim McNutt posted on Instagram. “A few weeks from now we’ll be closing our doors for good. I opened my little ice cream shop on Colfax 10 years ago, and I’m so incredibly grateful for all the support that made it a success over the past decade.
“Most service industry businesses don’t make it past the first year or two, but because of all you amazing people, we made it 10 years. Hell, back when we first opened, I was in my 30s and didn’t have all these grays in my beard! Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for liking my ice cream and for keeping us in business all these years,” he continued.
“I haven’t decided what the official last day will be, but you’ve got a few weeks left to enjoy what we have to offer because once December ends, we’re like Paulie from The Godfather. You won’t see us no more. Again, thanks for 10 unforgettable years, friends!”
