IMMOKALEE, Fla. — It’s summertime which means schools out for Southwest Florida students.

Daisy and Dinamar of Immokalee are also on summer break but instead of taking a break, they’re at Florida Gulf Coast University.

Through a program within the Immokalee Foundation students participated in a summer camp by taking on a problem within a group of 2 or more, and finding a solution together. But, opportunities like this program aren’t tangible for everyone, especially students from Immokalee.

16 immokalee students participated in a Shark Tank-themed presentation thanks to the partnership between the foundation and FGCU.

“When you go to college and you learn something and then are like I don’t want to do this no more you change but here you can actually do it before college and learn what you want to do before you even enter college,” said Daisy.

Provide programs that help students be successful in the future, that’s one of the main goals of the foundation.

Each group presented an invention to a panel of 4 judges with the hopes of securing support for their future potential business. Daisy and Dinamar invented the Bored Box, a box filled with activities for children to cure boredom.

Now these two are paving a pathway to put it on the market, they’re hoping to get it posted on Amazon soon. The confidence Daisy, Dinamar and their peers showed during the presentations is priceless for their future.

“Never give up we were planning on giving up like we were planning on doing an app or something, we weren’t planning on doing this,” said Dinamar. Daisy added, “taking risks is a part of life you can learn from the risk, the mistakes, you can learn from anything you do.”
