SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla. — An investigation is underway after a group of people organized an “Intersection Takeover,” swarming a North Port intersection and speeding around in circles early Saturday morning. One person was arrested, and multiple vehicles were cited, according to police.
On Saturday, Nov. 11, multiple people from outside the area organized an “Intersection Takeover,” closing down the intersection of Price Boulevard and Toledo Blade Boulevard around 1:30 a.m.
According to the North Port Police Department (NPPD), the incident involved vehicles speeding around in circles as people filmed, moving dangerously close.
Officers arrested 19-year-old David Oliveira of Cape Coral. They are charging him with Fleeing to Elude and a moving violation for stopping traffic for a race competition.
NPPD said they stopped and cited multiple other vehicles.
Officers are still collecting surveillance video and social media content to hold more accountable.
This investigation is ongoing, and more charges are pending.
