The former Windy City Playhouse at 3014 W. Irving Park Rd. is coming back to life, courtesy of the Invictus Theatre Company, which will produce its 2024 season in the theater space at the western end of Chicago’s North Center neighborhood.
The Windy City Playhouse opened in 2015, offering luxury seating for its audience, with a building including a bar and ancillary space. It was put up for sale last April. Many feared it would not remain a venue for live shows.
Invictus, though, has rented the theater space and plans a season to include the Chicago premiere of the Broadway show “Network,” Tracy Letts’ “August: Osage County,” Suzan-Lori Parks’ “Topdog/Underdog” and William Shakespeare’s “Macbeth.”
With a trajectory on the rise, Invictus is a 7-year-old, non-Equity theater company.
