Israel’s Military Strategy in the Gaza Strip, Mapped

The Gaza Strip has become a war zone since Hamas on Oct. 7 conducted a surprise cross-border attack on Israel that killed about 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and abducted more than 200 people as hostages.

In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared war and pledged to destroy the militant group. The fighting in Gaza has flattened neighborhoods, closed hospitals and severely curtailed supplies of medicine, electricity, food and water. Health authorities in the Hamas-run enclave say more than 13,000 people, most of them women and children, have been killed—a figure that doesn’t distinguish between militants and civilians.
