All 367 passengers and 12 crew members escaped the passenger plane, while five people on the coast guard plane were still unaccounted for, NHK reported. Rescuers were seen extinguishing the fire.
The plane was heading from Sapporo, in northern Japan, to Tokyo, NHK reported. Planes due to land in Haneda Airport were being diverted Tuesday.
The flight was scheduled to land at 5:35 p.m. local time, NHK reported. By 5:50, there was footage of the plane on fire on social media. All runways at Haneda Airport were shut down at 6 p.m., NHK reported.
