What ties together romance, vinyl, a historic San Francisco locale and John Cusack?
On the night of Nov. 18, Cusack is slated to stop at San Francisco’s historic Curran Theatre for a screening of “High Fidelity,” followed by a candid Q&A with audience members about his Golden Globe Award-nominated performance in the movie as a lovesick record shop owner and DJ. Based on a 1995 novel by Nick Hornby, the storyline was also revisited in a 2020 reboot on Hulu starring Zoë Kravitz.
In keeping with the film’s subject matter, event collaborator Noise Pop will curate local record vendors to set up booths at the event; the event page promises audience members the chance to shop for “rare vinyl gems” before and after the screening.

Cusack’s career took off in the ’80s when he began acting in coming-of-age films, some of which remain among his best-known performances: “Sixteen Candles,” “Better Off Dead,” “Say Anything.” In his decadeslong career, he’s worked on thrillers (“Identity”), disaster films (“2012”) and box office comedy (“Hot Tub Time Machine”).
Cusack’s stop in San Francisco is one of a series of “Evening with John Cusack” events touring around the country. In Atlanta, he is scheduled to screen “Grosse Point Blank”; in St. Louis, “Say Anything.”
