A trial date for alleged Highland Park mass shooter Robert Crimo III will be set at his next court date, the judge presiding over the case said Monday.

Crimo appeared for a case management conference in Lake County Court Monday, which lasted only about three minutes.

Assistant State’s Attorney Ben Dillon told the judge that the voluminous discovery in the July 4, 2022 parade shooting should be concluded in the coming weeks, and is expected to be wrapped up by the next court date.

Judge Victoria Rossetti set Dec. 11 for the next appearance. The judge said she would set a trial date at that hearing.

Dillon told the judge that since Crimo’s last court appearance in May, prosecutors have tendered an additional 10,000 pages of investigative reports and other materials to Crimo’s attorneys from the Lake County public defender’s office.

The judge noted that she had received subpoenaed material from hospitals that treated the dozens of victims of the shooting, and that she had turned the material over to the attorneys and prosecutors.

Crimo is being held in lieu of bail on seven counts of first-degree murder and dozens of other felonies related to the mass shooting at the Highland Park Independence Day parade last year.

His father, Robert Crimo Jr., is scheduled to stand trial in November on reckless conduct charges. Authorities charged him late last year, alleging that it was reckless of him to vouch for his then-underaged son on state forms in 2019 that allowed Crimo III to purchase firearms.

The father’s attorney said at Crimo Jr.’s most recent hearing that the son could possibly be called as a witness in the father’s trial, which is scheduled to begin Nov. 6.

Crimo Jr., who is out on bond, was in attendance Monday as he has been routinely for his son’s court appearances. Crimo III’s mother was also in the gallery.
