UPDATE:

Joseph Zieler was found guilty in the 1990 double homicide of Lisa Story and Robin Cornell.

Zieler was found guilty of the two first-degree murder charges.

The polling jury all voted yes in the verdict.

CAPE CORAL, Fla. — The jury is deliberating the fate of Joseph Zieler in the 1990 double homicide of Lisa Story and Robin Cornell.

The case was closed just before 6 p.m. after a day of shocking testimony from the ex-girlfriend of the defendant, as well as Joseph Zieler himself.

Zieler said he wasn’t in Florida at the time of the murders. He said the only way his DNA could be present is because maybe he slept with Jan Cornell in December of 1998.

His testimony went back and forth all afternoon long, changing his words around and trying to do anything in his power to avoid conviction.

DNA analysts say there is a 1/83 quintillion chance the DNA from the Cape Coral crime scene belongs to anyone other than Zieler.

Zieler claims it was either his father or one of his brothers. Experts report that’s not probable considering the DNA profile.

The defendant’s ex-girlfriend also shared surprising testimony. Bonnie Kniceley shared the fact she and Zieler met and started dating the same month as the May 1990 murders. They were together for 26 years.

One statement shook the courtroom, Kniceley was asked about Zieler’s preferences for intimacy. She described a positioning that is exactly the way 11-year-old Robin Cornell’s body was found.
