Mounties in Kelowna say three people were arrested after stealing a boat early Monday morning.

The Kelowna RCMP says it was called to a house in the Upper Mission area after a boat was stolen at around 2:15 a.m.

Police say CCTV footage from a house in the neighbourhood showed a white Ford truck leaving the house towing the stolen boat behind it.

Mounties say an officer out on patrol saw the truck driving with the stolen boat still in tow just after 12 p.m. in the Lower Mission area and went ahead with pulling over the driver.

“Footage from a private residence significantly supported this investigation and assisted our frontline officers in recovering the stolen vessel within hours,” said Cpl. Michael Gauthier.

Police say the driver and one passenger were arrested without incident, but a second passenger ran away before being caught and arrested in a nearby parking lot.

“Video evidence, a watchful eye, and several RCMP teams working well together were instrumental in this recovery,” Gauthier added.

Mounties say they seized drugs and a gun during the arrest. The passenger who ran from police remains in custody, while the other two have been released until they appear in court.

Police say they will be recommending charges against all three of them.
