A man is facing 12 charges after a person was allegedly kidnapped in Surrey last week.
The RCMP says two men were arrested in New Westminster around 2 a.m. on Oct. 26 after the vehicle they were in was seen “driving erratically” and was found to have “suspicious damage” on it.
According to Mounties, the pair was taken into custody “without incident.”
Over the course of their investigation, police say a loaded firearm was “recovered.” It was later determined that, before the vehicle was stopped, an exchange in a parkade of a Surrey building led to a man allegedly threatening another man with a gun and shots subsequently being fired.
The RCMP says it never received reports of the shooting, nor any other calls related to the incident.
“Thankfully, no bystanders were injured during this incident,” said Corp. Sarbjit K. Sangha of the Surrey RCMP, noting Mounties worked closely with the New Westminster Police Department on this file.
Investigators confirm one of the two people inside the car was believed to have been kidnapped, though no further details were provided.
The charges laid in connection with this incident include some relating to firearms offences, kidnapping, uttering threats, and assault.
With regards to the traffic stop, the NWPD is commending the efforts of the officer who was involved, saying, “he did not know if the occupants of the vehicle were going to comply with his instructions and it was initially unknown if the driver had a firearm.”
