Langley senior Alina Ho (a two-day total of 141) earned medalist honors. Teammate Catherine Qiu (144) was runner-up. Finn Watson of Washington-Liberty (145) finished third.
Ho, committed to play golf at Virginia Tech next year, stressed how important it was to strike the right note to begin a push toward another state title, both for herself and the team.
“It’s great knowing that we have a solid team, especially with this being my last year on the team,” she said. “I can definitely [still] play better than I did the past two days.”
Qiu said knowing that her teammates were not too far in front of or behind her helped boost her confidence.
“You can always expect to have someone to talk to when you’re on the tee box waiting for the next hole,” she said. “The consistency we’ve had with this team, especially the top players, has been great.”
Emily Wang, who finished 8 over for Wednesday’s round, said the seniors’ bond helps all of their games.
“It’s very comforting,” she said. “I’ve known Catherine and Alina since I was in elementary school, so playing golf in high school together has been a very fun experience.”
Wang’s highlight? A birdie on her final hole.
“That [birdie] felt really, really good because I needed it to shoot a 79,” Wang said.
Saxons Coach Al Berg stressed how committed his three seniors are not just to their own games but to team success.
“All three of them understand how important it is to have an all-around game,” he said. “They really put the time and effort into it.”
