LEE COUNTY, Fla. — Teachers have a lot of work to do over the next week getting their rooms ready for students, and now they’re excited to welcome children back.

“It’s always exciting when we first get started, and everyone’s excited to start,” said Rose Eyster, a fourth-grade math teacher at J Colin English Elementary School. She said this school year looks a little different.

“So, this will be my first year starting with a new math curriculum,” said Eyster.

Schools across Lee County are still trying to hire teachers and staff, so Shanell Moneghan is teaching a different subject.

“I’m going to be teaching science, so that’s new to me, so that’s exciting because I’m not really focused in on the science as much, so that’s gonna be exciting,” explained Moneghan.

Some teachers, like Ines Simmons, are new to this school.

“I’m excited about it. It’s a new school, but I’m excited seeing how everything runs here,” said Simmons.

With all the changes, teachers want to remind you that they’re doing everything they can to give your kids a great education.

Christina Wait is a third-grade teacher who said, “We’re working, and we’re preparing for everything, but just remember we’re all doing the best we can, and if things have a few hiccups in the beginning, hopefully, they’ll be all ironed out and ready to go.”

Lee County students go back to school on Aug. 10.
