LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. — Lehigh Acres has many rural parts and streets without much lighting. People who live off of Parklane Boulevard are complaining about excessive speeding and the concerns they have living so close to the street that connects drivers to State Road 82.
Leslie Brogdon spent the last 7 years and counting, watching cars zoom past her home.
“It’s very normal around here knowing it’s 35. They do anywhere between 50 to 60 on this street,” Brogdon said.
She said there used to be a lot of potholes forcing people to slow down a bit.
“They go around cars when they feel that the car in front of them is going too slow but there is nothing being done about it,” she said.
Brogdon said it’s a hassle getting out of her driveway.
“They will go around me because they think I am going slow or sitting there too long. Or I am interrupting where they are trying to go,” she said.
Luckily no one has gotten hurt yet, but neighbors say things they have left near the side of the road have gotten hit.
They are hoping for speed bumps or lights in the area.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office asks that people call with these complaints to get patrols.
Lee County Commissioners say the roadway goes beyond their code, but residents are encouraged to contact the municipal services taxing unit or power company to find ways to get lights in the area.
