SOUTHWEST FLORIDA — Man arrested after shooting at an ex-girlfriend and driving away from the crime scene Sunday morning.
The Sheriff’s Office said the man broke into the victim’s home at the 13000 block of 3rd Street in Fort Myers and shot her in the neck.
After fleeing from the scene, Daniel Dunn barricaded himself in his home on Mandy Street in Punta Gorda for hours.
A SWAT team from the Collier County Sheriff’s Office called Lee County Sheriff’s Office to assist with the standoff.
Everything ended off Jones Loop Road after deputies got into a shootout with Dunn.
Sheriff Bill Prummell stated, “He began shooting rounds at our deputies, and our deputies returned fire and struck Mr.Dunn, at which time he surrendered.”
Dunns was shot and taken to a hospital in stable condition. An ambulance drove away with deputies behind it.
The sheriff said Dunn faces charges of aggravated battery and burglary with a firearm in Lee County and will probably face more charges in Charlotte County for firing at deputies.
The victim is in the hospital in critical condition.
Deputies remain on the scene as this is still a criminal investigation.
Dunns will appear in court on Monday morning.
