NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. – A man was rescued by first responders after he got lost in the woods next to North Tamiami Trail in North Fort Myers Saturday night.

Crews were searching for him for hours. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office used their aviation helicopter to light up the area. A drone was also used to help find him.

First responders found the man just before 9:00 p.m. and pulled him out of the woods.

Two divers carried him across a canal to safety. There were multiple bodies of water in the area. The divers and man were washed off with a hose.

The suspect was loaded into an ambulance and taken to a hospital.

Deputies say the man was not arrested, he was just lost in the woods.

NBC2 is currently working to find out who the man is, what he was doing in the woods, where he entered, and how he went missing.
