Three people were shot in a home in Greater Grand Crossing early Monday, one critically and one fatally, after several shots were fired through their window.
Police responded to the 7000 block of South Wabash Avenue about 12:45 a.m. Monday after receiving a call that someone had been shot.
Inside the home, a 53-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. He was said to be the first person to die by gunshot in Chicago this year.
Police also found a 49-year-old woman who had been shot in the side of the head, and a 48-year-old woman who had been shot in the arm. Both women were transported to University of Chicago Hospital.
The woman shot in the head is in critical condition, police said. The other woman is in stable condition, police said.
Police believe the gunfire came from outside of the house, hitting the three victims through a window. No arrests have been made.
Detectives from Area One, which includes several South Side neighborhoods, are still investigating the shooting.
Seven people have been shot in Chicago since the start of 2024, according to police.
