A man who was stabbed during a fight in Escondido Saturday afternoon is in critical condition, police said.
The Escondido Police Department received an emergency call Saturday at 1:42 p.m. about a group of people fighting at W. El Norte Pkway near Las Villas Way. When officers arrived, no one was there, Police Lt. Ryan Hicks said in a press release. Not long after, Palomar Medical Center advised the police that a male with stab wounds had arrived in the emergency room.
The man is being treated at the hospital and is listed in critical condition, Hicks said. Police learned at the hospital that the man’s injuries were related to the earlier call about a fight.
No one is in custody at this time, and there is no description of a suspect, Hicks said. Escondido detectives are investigating the possibility that the incident is gang-related.
Anyone who witnessed or has information regarding the fight and stabbing is encouraged to call the Escondido Police Department at 760-839-4722 or Detective Pat Hand at 760-839-4985.
