Mounties in Oliver, B.C., say they are investigating allegations that a “prominent member of the South Okanagan wine industry” sexually assaulted a migrant worker from Mexico.

Officers believe the suspect, whose name has not been released, hired the worker.

Police say they believe there may be additional victims or witnesses, and they are encouraging them to come forward.

“Considering the seriousness of this allegation, and the potential for additional victims, police are reaching out to the community to speak with those who have yet to come forward,” said Corp. James Grandy, spokesperson for the BC RCMP. “If you have been a victim, or have any information, we’re encouraging you to speak with us.”

Police say Spanish-speaking officers are available to assist.

Grandy says the investigation is ongoing and charges against the man haven’t been approved by the BC Prosecution Service. No further details are being released at this time.
