A 20-year-old motorcycle rider died after he struck a yellow box truck on a road in the Otay Mesa area Monday, according to a California Highway Patrol official.

The crash was reported around 4:40 a.m. when a Kawasaki Ninja hit the disabled truck parked on the eastside curb of Enrico Fermi Drive north of Otay Mesa Road, Officer Salvador Castro said in a news release.

The rider, from Chula Vista, was ejected from the motorcycle and suffered major injuries, Castro said. He died before he could be taken to a hospital. His name was not released, pending notification of his family.

It was not immediately known if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.

Investigators asked anyone with information to contact the CHP San Diego office at 858-293-6000.
