A 15-year-old Mount Prospect boy died five days after being shot in northwest suburban Palatine, authorities said Wednesday.
The teen was shot on the 1700 block of Clear Creek Bay on Aug. 17, according to Palatine police.
The teen, identified as Damian Hernandez, of the 900 block of Foxwood Drive in Mount Prospect, was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Children’s Hospital in Park Ridge, where he was pronounced dead on Tuesday, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.
Palatine police provided no details on how the shooting occurred, but said a 14-year-old boy was charged as a juvenile with attempted murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, aggravated discharge of a firearm and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. It was unclear if or when the teen could face upgraded charges.
Authorities are also seeking an 18-year-old suspect named in an arrest warrant.
