FORT MYERS, Fla. — The Fort Myers Police Department (FMPD) is investigating after a person was stabbed at a park near Downtown Fort Myers.
The stabbing happened at Roberto Clemente Park off Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard at around 3 p.m. on Friday.
The victim was transported to the hospital.
Leethon Phillips said the victim is his friend and that he saw everything.
He said a man got mad and stabbed his friend and ran away.
“I was at the table sitting down, I just saw the knife come out of his hand and hit the guy one time,” said Phillips.
FMPD said they detained three people shortly after the incident. One person has been released.
Phillips said he’s that person.
“I was handcuffed about 30 minutes,” said Phillips.
Other parkgoers say they’re shocked to see this happen.
“It’s a good park, a lot of homeless people be out here and this the first time I ever seen this,” said Gladys Sweet.
FMPD said the victim and suspect are not homeless.
“Some young kid got stabbed over there. I didn’t even know there was a stabbing, he had been like that 10 or 15 minutes… I didn’t know anyone got stabbed. I seen the ambulance come up,” said Ricky Peterson.
We’re working to find out who the victim is, how he’s doing, and who stabbed him.
