FORT MYERS, Fla. — Michele Hylton-Terry is the Executive Director of the Fort Myers Community Redevelopment Agency. She said these murals are a collaboration with the Fort Myers Mural Society and the City of Fort Myers Public Art Committee.

“How better yet to show the history of the site and what this facility used to be to the community, to bring back life to this property,” explained Hylton-Terry.

She also said these murals are more than just pretty pieces to look at.

“What we want people to know as they drive by and see these beautiful murals is the history that McCollum Hall brings to this community and how it was once a place that brought our community together,” smiled Hylton-Terry.

A lot of work went into these murals. Juan Pablo Almonacid is one of the artists who brought these murals to life.

“I sketch out everything on paper, I take it to digital, and I go on the wall, but that’s very easily said cause it’s months of planning,” explained Almonacid.

Almonacid said art needs to be appreciated like this more often.

“Promoting the arts in our community can not only beautify our spaces, but it can also break these social barriers that we have,” Almonacid said passionately.

“Stop and see the murals, they’re great backgrounds for your photos. We also have information, a QR code throughout the wall with the information about the CRA,” showed Hilton-Terry.
