The Duralex Picardie is one of the most iconic pieces of drinkware out there. To me, the French-made glasses are absolutely timeless and don’t exclusively fit into any single type of dining — I’d just as soon expect to see them in a fine dining restaurant today as I would a small fast casual spot or a café down the street. I have a whole shelf of Duralex glasses at home that I inherited from my grandfather. As a kid, I loved using them for soda, and today, I employ them for everything from serving wine and cocktails at parties to sipping fresh juice and water throughout the day. They truly look great doing anything.

I never checked the prices of these glasses, assuming they must have been fairly expensive since they’re French-made and have been in my family for decades, not to mention that I’ve spotted them in numerous upscale restaurants. Recently, I was doing some online shopping and wanted to see if Duralex had any other glasses I might want for my home. In any case, the Picardie is an ideal dining glass in many ways. Its soft angles and slightly turned-out rim make it a dream to hold in the hand (and difficult to drop). These glasses are also incredibly durable — they’re made from heavy, tempered glass, and I’ve seen them fumbled onto the table and the ground many times without breaking. Because of their thickness, they’re fairly chip-resistant without feeling  bulky. Most of all, though, I think it’s the elegant, slightly wavy bistro vibe that sets these glasses apart. Simply put, they look cool, and it feels fun to use one.
