NAPLES, Fla. — Naples Police are looking for a man who groped and harassed a juvenile girl Friday at a public bus stop.
According to the Naples Police Department, The girl had just left school and was about to catch the bus, like she does every day.
The victim told police she noticed the man before he harassed her, he kept walking back and forth at the bus stop lifting up his shirt.
While waiting for the bus the man tried to lean on the victim and kiss her at the Collier Area Transit (CAT) bus stop located at 1600 Fleischmann Boulevard along Goodlette Frank Road. The victim tried to avoid the man but he kept forcing himself on her, eventually causing her to fall on the sidewalk. When the man tried to help her up, she yelled at him not to touch her and stood with other girls until the bus arrived.
“If there are people around, get loud,” Project Hope CEO Eileen Wesley said. “You could be a fully trained MMA boxer and somebody attacks you and your response to trauma is to freeze.”
But this victim fought through that natural response and drew attention to her attacker.
“Yell, fire! When people yell ‘help’ everybody has that bystander effect like ‘Oh somebody’s gonna go help them.’ But if you yell something big, that might affect somebody else,” she said.
When the bus arrived, the man followed the victim onto the bus and grabbed her buttocks. She yelled ‘Stop,” and made sure to sit far away from him at the back of the bus.
“She did the right thing on the bus and sitting away from him,” Wesley said. “I’m not sure if she told the bus driver but that could have been helpful.”
The man sat in the front and continued to watch her throughout the bus ride. When the victim stood up to get off at her stop, the man looked at her and also stood up. When he got off the bus the victim sat back down and let the doors close on him and this horrible situation. She continued to ride the bus to the Collier County Government Center.
The victim told Naples Police she did not know the man or recognize him from her school or neighborhood. She refused emergency medical treatment for the injuries suffered from her fall on the sidewalk.
The man is described as Hispanic with black hair, approximately 18 to 20 years old. He’s around 5’7″ to 5’10” tall with a thin build
