Super sweet coffees and teas just arrived in the Bay Area … again.

Dutch Bros, a Pacific Northwest drive-thru chain serving wildly creative, notably sugary drinks, opened a new outpost in Martinez on Friday.

The chain is popular for coffee and tea concoctions like chocolate crunch cold brew coffee, which comes with Oreo cookie crumbles, and Palm Beach tea, which is flavored with pomegranate and peach syrups. The company also serves beverages with its proprietary energy drink, Rebel.

This is the 12th Bay Area Dutch Bros, and there are three more slated to open soon — one in Concord, another in Vallejo and a third in Fairfield, according to the company’s website.

The chain started as a pushcart business in 1992 in Grants Pass, Oregon, about 30 minutes north of the California-Oregon border. The two brothers who founded it, Dane and Travis Boersma, who actually are of Dutch descent, then grew the company throughout the United States until its initial public offering in 2021.

The company turned Travis Boersma into a billionaire (Dane died of Lou Gehrig’s disease in 2009) as there are about 470 shops throughout 11 states.

The new location is at 3455 Alhambra Ave. in Martinez and will be open Sunday through Thursday from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m.
