Nicki Minaj Professes Her Love for Stephen Colbert in Mini Rap Battle

Stephen Colbert bravely allowed Nicki Minaj to change her song lyrics to be about him during an appearance on The Late Show in 2018 and he’s now the subject of a new tune. During an interview on the late-night show, Minaj offered Colbert a new opportunity to battle rap her.

In the clip, Colbert queried Minaj about her new album, Pink Friday 2, and its setting Gag City. After asking her if there were any songs she left on the table, host started pounding his desk. “Did you learn how to make a beat?” Minaj asked. “That’s definitely not the one I taught you the last time.”

She then told him to sit back and just “be entertained” before spitting two new lines from her album cut “F the Club Up.” “Instead I changed it to ‘F the Colbert Up,’” she explained to the audience. The new lyrics: “High heels on for Stevie/ If I marry Stevie he ain’t never gonna leave me.” She then gave Colbert a chance to give his response, which took an unexpected turn.

Minaj also discussed her upcoming tour, which kicks off in March. She noted that she’s continuing to add dates to the trek, citing New York, Paris, London, and Detroit as her favorite places to play. “My fans are energetic everywhere I go,” she said. “We always just turn the f–k up.”

Later, Minaj discussed her perfume and her three-year-old son, who she said “runs everything.”

Minaj dropped the long-awaited Pink Friday 2 earlier this month. The album encompasses 22 new songs and features Drake, J. Cole, Lil Wayne, Tate Kobang, Lourdiz, Lil Uzi Vert, Skillibeng, Skeng, Tasha Cobbs Leonard, and Future.

Leading up to the release, Barbz created an AI world named Gag City — a hyper-futuristic, uber-pink metropolis — where Pink Friday 2 lives, based on the album’s cover which sees Minaj standing on a floating platform over Teenage Dream-esque clouds in front of an imaginary city.

“As we begin to prepare for landing, please make sure your tray tables are put back up & your seat belts are tightly fastened,” Minaj wrote on X (formerly Twitter) around the release. “The captain has activated the ‘no bathroom’ sign. If you look out the window, you’ll begin to see the beauty…clear waters, pink dolphins…#GagCity #PF2.”

Pink Friday 2 marks the singer’s first studio album since Queen, which featured singles like “Chun-Li” and “Good Form.” (She dropped a greatest hits album named Queen Radio last year and re-released Beam Me Up Scotty in 2021.) In 2019, the singer said she had started working on her new album, and tweeted “PF2” for the first time in 2020, teasing that Pink Friday was making a reappearance.
