Ninja Turtles voice actor Peter Renaday is found dead at age 89

Peter Renaday, best known for his role as the original voice of Master Splinter in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, has died at age 89. 

The prolific voice actor was ‘found him dead inside’ his home in Burbank, California on Sunday following a ‘welfare check.’ 

Law enforcement confirmed the news to TMZ on Tuesday of his passing.

The outlet reported that that his ‘appears to be natural and isn’t being handled as a medical examiner case.’ 

Renaday was first cast in his role as Hamato Yoshi/Splinter, the mentor of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles from 1987 until the show’s finale in 1996.

Later, the Louisiana native reprised the role during a live action TMNT: Coming Out of Their Shells concert event, which was recorded at Radio City Music Hall, which was released on the VHS release in 1990. 

Some of his other credits include voicing Abraham Lincoln in The Hall of Presidents and Henry and Max in Country Bear Jamboree at Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. 

Additionally, he had an uncredited role in The Rescuers. 

Additionally, his voice work was featured in Transformers, Batman, Superman, multiple Disney movies, like voicing the Milkman and Le Petit Café Chef in The Aristocats, and various video games. 

He even lent his voice to attractions at the Disney Parks for e Walt Disney World’s 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (as Captain Nemo), The Hall of Presidents (as Abraham Lincoln from 1994–2008) and the Disneyland version of The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (as the narrator).

According to Rotten Tomatoes, he went on ‘garner small roles in a string of Disney films like Lt. Robin Crusoe, U.S.N., The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band, The Love Bug and The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes. 

The actor (born Pierre Laurent Renoudet) was born on June 9, 1935 in New Iberia, Louisiana. 

By the mid-1980s, Renaday had moved into voice work and lending his voice to cartoons and even Disney attractions.

The star was previously married to Florence ‘Flo’ Daniel from 1979 until her death on February 18, 2011. 

His late spouse worked as a secretary in the music department of the Walt Disney Studios for more than three decades.
