The singer revealed a collaboration with Blake, who appears on “Tantrums”
Normani revealed the track list to her highly-anticipated debut solo album, Dopamine, on Wednesday evening. The LP spans 13 tracks and includes previously released songs “Wild Side” with Cardi B, “1:59” featuring Gunna, and fast-talking track “Candy Paint.”
The upcoming project, which also features James Blake on “Tantrums,” is slated for release on June 14 via RCA Records.
When describing the album’s sound in an interview with Rolling Stone earlier this month, the star said she naturally gravitates to ” darker-sounding things from a sonic perspective, something that feels like it has bite and grit and edginess to it.” She continued, “At one point, I was like, ‘Listen, everything can’t sound dark. We want to take everybody on a ride. We need to add some color.’ I love Missy Elliott so much, Timbaland production. I like unique things that haven’t necessarily really been heard, so that’s also why production is my favorite part of the process.”
Since embarking on her solo career in 2018, around the time that Fifth Harmony went on an indefinite hiatus, Normani has worked on numerous A-list collaborations. During this time, she’s teased at a debut album for nearly six years.
Normani also said she was anxious about “the pressures of the wait and hoping that everybody loves this body of work as much as I love it” as the release of her album approached. “I’m still listening to things again for the hundredth time to make sure there are no extra harmonies that I want to put in a section, or a lyric that I might want to change,” she told Rolling Stone. “I want to know that I put in absolutely everything that I could, that I exhausted every possibility.”
