NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. — North Fort Myers quarterback Bryce Duross is the very first winner of the ABC Player of the Week. The senior had an explosive game during the “Week 0” scrimmage, helping the Red Knights pull out a huge 63-0 victory over Gateway.
“I’m very, very thankful for it,” said Duross. “I’ve worked very hard. 12 months ago, I wasn’t even a quarterback, so now that I’m here and I’m blessed to be named Player of the Week, and I’m very thankful for that.”
Duross set the tone in the very first play of the game. One snap, and he was off to the races, taking it 65 yards to the house.
“That moment right there alone will stick with me for the rest of my life,” said Duross.
He was 5-6 for 112 passing yards and two touchdowns, but his legs also got to work, adding 104 rushing yards over eight carries and another three scores. The first three touchdowns of the game were all scored by Duross. Even more impressive, this was all done while only playing in the first half.
“It’s kudos to Bryce as an athlete,” said North Fort Myers head coach David Pasquale. “He’s done a heck of a job for the past 12 months, buying into his role as a leader. He’s really bought into doing the work in order to make himself a better passer and a better runner and a better student of the game.”
“Of course, I have to give big thanks to the offensive line. They really showed up for me and the other backs last week. Thanks to Coach P, we had great play calling that game. Can’t ask for more. Glad we were able to put that game plan together and go out and win.”
Duross and the Red Knights are back in action for week one of the regular season as they take on Fort Myers on August 25.
