Novak Djokovic is doubling down.

Last year, the 36-year-old tennis star was forced to skip the U.S. open after he refused to get vaccinated against COVID-19. He ultimately missed the 2021 and 2022 editions of the Grand Slam tournament due to his decision not to get vaccinated.

CNN writes that in a recent interview ahead of the Western & Southern Open tournament in Mason, Ohio, Novak told reports that he did not regret missing the Grand Slam tournaments.

“The reason why I was not here for two years, I have zero regret on that,” Novak said. “I’m just glad to be back.”

He went on to say that he was excited to compete in an American tournament again.

“I’ve had plenty of success on American soil with Indian Wells, Miami, obviously Canada and here, won many times at these Masters 1,000 events, all of them,” he continued. “Of course, the US Open as well being the pinnacle of the hard-court season — I’m just excited.”
