Chicago firefighters extinguished a fire in a Lakeview high rise near DuSable Lake Shore Drive that left one person injured Friday evening.

Firefighters responded to a fire call on the 15th floor of a building at 412 W. Melrose St. put out the fire shortly after 6 p.m., a Chicago Fire Department spokesperson said.

Firefighters were continuing to search and ventilate the building, raising the alarm to 2-11, which summons additional crew, equipment and resources to the scene, the spokesperson said.

Paramedics took one person to an area hospital in critical condition, they added. The cause of the fire was under investigation, authorities said.
