Re “No on Prop. 33. Rent control makes problem worse.” (Sept. 12): Here’s another reason to vote no on Proposition 33. Most rental housing is provided by “mom and pop” owners, not large corporations. Often, long-term tenants are paying significantly less than current market rents. Because Proposition 33 would prevent landlords from catching up when those tenants eventually move on (vacancy control), rents for existing tenants will be increased to the maximum permitted. No capital improvements will be made as there is no way to recoup the cost. Please vote no on Proposition 33.
