The Padres Foundation held a “BaseBOWL” fundraiser recently and raised $70,000 for the Monarch School, a K-12 public school that educates unhoused youth.
Pitcher Josh Hader and outfielder Trent Grisham presented a check to the school during a special home plate ceremony at Petco Park on Aug. 31.
More than a dozen Padres, including Hader, Grisham and Manny Machado, participated in the event at the East Village Tavern + Bowl.
This year’s BaseBOWL sponsors were SDG&E and the DiBiasi Family.
Founded in 1987, Monarch is a public-private partnership between the county Office of Education and the nonprofit Monarch School Project. It offers a comprehensive program designed to educate and nurture youth experiencing homelessness.
