After band was noticeably absent during Sunday’s ceremony, they shared where they were on that night

A day after Paramore clinched two trophies during Sunday’s Grammys 2024, the band took to social media to remark on their historic win and to shed some light on their absence from the star-studded ceremony.

“First off, infinite thanks to our fans, our team, and the voting academy for making This Is Why such a moment for us, 20 years into our career,” wrote frontwoman Hayley Williams, guitarist Taylor York, and drummer Zac Farro in a statement shared to Instagram on Monday.

The trio revealed that they enjoyed the night while “sitting together in Zac’s living room, dressed in our regular clothes,” acknowledging that “yes, we saw the empty red carpet meme.”

They also recognized the significance of the moment for female artists in the industry, writing, “Turns out, our win for Best Rock Album was a historic feat as we are the first female-fronted band to ever take home a trophy for this category. Ridiculous yet true! It’s an honor for Paramore to be a small but constant reminder for people to keep pushing these rock and alternative spaces to be more inclusive.”

The group also commented on their split from Atlantic Records. After their 20-year deal with the label ended in January, Paramore’s website was taken down, alarming many fans who worried about the future of the band. The band later released their take on Talking Heads‘ hit single “Burning Down the House” as part of a forthcoming Everyone’s Getting Involved: A Tribute to Talking Heads’ Stop Making Sense tribute album, putting followers at ease.

“Some of you will know that This Is Why was our last album for our deal with Atlantic Records. To finish anything well is something to be proud of,” they continued in Monday’s statement. “Thank you to anyone who supported the ethos of Paramore as much as the music.”

Last month, SZA confirmed that she was working on new music with Paramore. Williams spoke to Rolling Stone last year, and in a previously unreleased part of the interview said they both wanted to work on a song together that’s “alternative-leaning.”
