ORIGINAL STORY: LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. — At least one person had to be taken to the hospital after a pickup truck collided with a Lehigh Acres home and ended up in a nearby canal.
Several other vehicles were reportedly involved in the crash.
The crash happened on 24th St. W near Sunshine Boulevard Thursday night. According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, a man driving a white pickup truck hit the house before crashing into a canal.
Deputies said the man was not injured; however, at least one person inside the home was taken to the hospital.
Jessica Vandross was lying in bed when a driver came barreling through her bedroom wall.
“I was just sitting on the bed, and I don’t even remember. I don’t know what exactly happened; I just know cinder blocks were everywhere,” explained Jessica.
Her husband, Gary, was also in the home.
“She was thrown 12 feet across the room to the front door,” said Gary.
“My headboard to my bed is directly on the other side of the wall, and my wife was sitting in the bed at the time when the truck hit the house,” showed Gary.
After the truck crashed into a canal, a man named Sergio Arredondo dove into the gator-infested waters to save the people inside the truck.
“I pulled the little girl out, then gave her to the other guy outside, then went back and got the guy out of the truck,” Arredondo said.
